“Tillman”

7 rounds for time

7 reps 315 lb deadlift

1 full gasser

15 pullups

45 second rest

23:49 as rx’d.

Hands took a beating on the pullups, although the pullups felt pretty smooth overall.  Deads got heavy, runs were certainly not sprints, but were all I had. All of the preceding is par for the course in this WOD.

Brutal hero WOD, worthy of Pat Tillman’s name.  I’m currently reading Where Men Win Glory: The Odyssey of Pat Tillman by Jon Krakauer.  When I heard Krakauer was writing this book, I had mixed emotions, but he really delivered on this one.  I’m a bit more than halfway through it, but I can say Krakauer does an excellent job of portraying the man for who he was.  The excerpts from Tillman’s own journal, as well as interviews with his wife, his friends, and his family convey the tremendous loss that occurred when Pat Tillman was killed by “friendly” fire in Afghanistan in 2004.

Breakfast: 2 hardboiled eggs, 1/2 avocado

Lunch: large salad, 2 oz deli roast beef, 3 oz deli turkey breast, 1 hard boiled egg, italian dressing

Dinner – large salad w balsamic dressing, 10 oz sirloin tips

Also of interest, a fairly conclusive article from Princeton University on the detriments of using high fructose corn syrup in lieu of real sugar.  Give it a read.
